Born August 22, 1946, in My Tho, Vietnam; came to the United States, naturalized
citizen; son of Miu Van (a teacher) and Kiem Thi (Dang) Huynh.
Long Island University, B.A. (magna cum laude), 1969, M.A., 1971; University of
Missouri, M.A., 1974, doctoral study.
Writer. Volunteer worker for local parks and recreation department.
South Vietnamese Army, 1963-66; became first lieutenant; received gold medal and
Modern Language Society of Long Island University, Optimates Society of Long
Huynh commented: "I am the first Vietnamese to write fiction and nonfiction
in English. I hope my books will make people from different countries happy,
regardless of their political adherences, creeds, and ages. To me, literature
must transcend politics, religions, and nationalities. Good literature unites
people while politics, religions, and nationalities tend to divide them."
